Todevac

The fortified town of Todevac was built as a border town of the Serbian Kosaca family towards Bosnia and for the purpose of protecting the Principality of Herzegovina. It is located on the left bank of the river Hrcavka, which flows into the river Sutjeska, opposite Milinklad and its sharp rocks. It was raised to over 1000 meters above sea level. The fortress was built at the 14th century.

Todevac Fortress was built as a border fortress and customs point during the reign of Serbian Duke Sandalj Hranic Kosaca. He built it as part of the process of independence from the Kingdom of Bosnia. It belonged to the parish of Drinaljevo and the Principality of Herzegovina. It protected roads leading from Herzegovina to Bosnia as well as trade caravans heading towards Dubrovnik. It was made for the need of the Kosaca family to control their principality. It can be reached along the valley of the river Hrcavka from the confluence with the river Sutjeska, 3 kilometers upstream. It had guard posts carved into the living rock, which was a feature of the construction of the fortress of the Kosaca family. It had built trenches and underground tunnels which supplied the fortress with water from the river Hrcavka. The Kosaca family welcomed guests in it, concluded business and trade agreements. At the request of traders from Dubrovnik, there was also a restaurant where traders could rest and eat. There are records that there was also music by Leuta from Dubrovnik, which amused the travelers. Out of gratitude for the opening of the restaurant Dubrovnik, he gave a house in Dubrovnik to the Serbian duke Sandalj Hranic Kosaca.

In 1389, it is mentioned in Dubrovnik historical documents as a fortress ruled by the Serbian duke Sandalj Hranic Kosaca. It concluded trade agreements with Dubrovnik.

In 1444, it is mentioned as a fortified town ruled by the Duke of St. Sava, Stefan Vukcic Kosaca. Mention is also made in the connotation of trade agreements.

In 1466, with the attack of the Turkish invaders, the fortress was conquered and destroyed.
